Frown Lines
If you’re concerned about frown lines, and you would like to know what causes them – and most importantly – how to treat them, then this article was written with you in mind.
To begin with, frown lines are commonly referred to as “worry lines” or similar. But the truth is these wrinkles and lines are not caused by worrying.
One of the problems people experience with these particular wrinkles is that it can make it seem like you are expressing a certain emotion (for example, anger, or worry) even if you’re not feeling this way, which may also invite comments from other people about “whether you’re ok”.
But despite its name, the biggest reason for their development is sun damage. This seems to hold true for most wrinkles, but especially those which develop around the forehead area.
This is because the sun damage causes a reduction of Collagen and Elastin in the skin, which causes the skin to become thinner, weaker, which in turn, allows wrinkles to develop.
However, other factors can also affect frown lines. Heredity and lifestyle factors play a part, as well as your particular skin type and complexion. Each of these things can affect how severe the frown lines will be.
So how can frown lines be treated?
Perhaps the most popular treatment is to have Botox injections (or their newer alternative, Dysport). This offers the most effective way to instantly “cure” the problem, but the downside is that it can be a little painful, and quite expensive. Don’t be surprised if it costs anywhere from $500 + per treatment, and it will need to be repeated every few months to maintain the effect.
Another cosmetic procedure is to have “filler” used to smoother over the deeper lines. This can be effective, but again, it isn’t a permanent solution. It will need to be repeated several times a year.
Next, it is possible to have a surgical procedure known as a forehead or brow “lift”. This can help to smooth out the wrinkled area. But this is only used for extreme cases of deeper wrinkles.
Finally, you could choose to use an anti-wrinkle cream. While it doesn’t give the same “instant effects”, many of them can work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in this area. It is also a much cheaper alternative in most cases. There are also a few of the more expensive brands, which promise to give near-Botox like effects.
LifeCell is one brand which comes to mind. While skin care creams will rarely give you that “dramatic” change you are looking for, they can certainly give you results if you keep using them for 30-90 days.
